CRIMINAL has FINALLY dropped on Netflix and fans can’t wait to see what the likes of Doctor Who’s David Tenant and former Corrie star Katherine Kelly have to offer in the crime drama series.
The show includes an A-list number of British actors with an exhilarating plot – here’s the lowdown.
When is Criminal released on Netflix?
Criminal is OUT NOW (released on September 20, 2019).
The series includes 12 episodes in total.
What’s interesting about this show is that every episode is written and directed by those from their respective countries.
Who’s in the cast?
David Tennant
David Tennant is one of the lead guest stars in the series.
The famous actor has helmed roles on a number of hit TV shows, including Doctor Who and Jessica Jones.
Hayley Atwell
Hayley Atwell is the gorgeous actress from London, who, quite frankly, needs no introduction.
She’s starred in plenty of blockbuster hits in recent years, appearing alongside Chris Evans in Captain America and Paul Rudd in 2015’s Ant-Man.
Youssef Kerkour
Presumably less known in the UK, Yousseff Kerkour is another name to look out for in the Netflix series.
Aside from having made an appearance in 2018’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, his lesser-known work include Nightflyers, Strike Back and Marcella.
Lee Ingleby
Lee Ingleby is an actor and writer from Burnley, Lancashire.
He’s famous for playing Paul Hughes in The A Word and John Bacchus in Inspector George Gently.
Lee took on the role of Stan Shunpike in 2004’s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – in case you weren’t familiar with his other line of work.
Katherine Kelly
TV royalty Katherine Kelly is lending her acting skills to the upcoming Netflix drama, and we couldn’t be happier.
Her first major role came when s he signed on to play Becky McDonald on the British soap Coronation Street – a character she played from 2006 until 2012.
Since then, she’s starred in a bunch of shows, including Mr. Selfridge, Happy Valley, and The Night Manager.
Nicholas Pinnock
Nicholas Pinnock has quite the promising career ahead of him.
We shouldn’t act like the actor hasn’t already proven himself to be an incredible talent, but it almost seems as if Nicholas always captures the right roles.
Aside from starring in Criminal, the star from London famously played Jason Backland in Marcella and Ian Shaw in Counterpart.
There’s no doubt that he’ll do another tremendous job in his new role.
Clare-Hope Ashitey
Clare-Hope probably has one of the biggest lists of credentials when it comes to working in television.
Aside from her recurring role in Criminal, Clare is also known for Doctor Foster, Shots Fired and Suspects.
What is Criminal about?
Criminal handles itself around 12 unique stories, based in France, the UK, Germany and Spain, with each episode filmed in that specific language.
The interesting part about this show is that the series is entirely filmed within the confines of a police interview room.
Netflix has since described it as a “stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama” which “focuses on the intense mental conflict between detectives and suspects.”
While the show is set in multiple countries, the series as a whole was actually shot at Netflix’s production hub at Ciudad de la Tele in Madrid.
