Mean Girls star Jonathan Bennett is set to appear in the Hallmark Channel’s first gay Christmas movie.

The actor will star in The Christmas House, portraying Brandon – one half of a same-sex couple.

The Christmas House will see Brandon visiting his parents for Christmas alongside his husband (Brad Harder), while the couple await news on the adoption of a child.

Joining them is Brandon’s brother, Mike (Robert Buckley), while their parents hope that bringing the family together will help them to find resolution and celebrate a memorable holiday during the Christmas period.

Michelle Vicary, EVP for Programming for Crown Media Family Networks has said: ‘Our holiday table is bigger and more welcoming than ever.

‘This year’s movies reflect our most diverse representation of talent, narratives, and families, including The Christmas House, featuring a storyline about a gay couple looking to adopt their first child, and starring Jonathan Bennett in an ensemble cast.

‘Our movies are rooted in warmth and positivity, meaningful connections, family gatherings and seasonal traditions – a winning formula we hope will bring our millions of viewers much-needed levity and holiday cheer at the end of a tough year.’

There’s no word on if the movie will make its way to TV screens over in the UK – although there’s still plenty of exciting festive content to look forward to.

And if you cannot wait any longer to get your Christmas movie fix, then have no fear, as a brand new channel dedicated to the holiday has launched today.

Sony Movies Christmas plans to broadcast nothing but festive films all day long, with A Beauty And The Beast Christmas, Marrying Father Christmas and The Christmas Cabin kicking off their premiere night.

You can also expect to see other new releases such as A Christmas Eve Miracle, Christmas Cruise and Lucky Christmas.

As if we needed more of an excuse to stay at home.

The Christmas House is set to premiere on November 22 on the Hallmark Channel.
