McTominay opens up on position change which may give Man Utd an unlikely boost

Manchester United star Scott McTominay says he enjoys playing as a centre-back for Scotland amid questions over his best position.

Ever since his debut for United in 2017, McTominay has been played in midfield and shown promise as the man providing protection to the backline.

But since the appointment of Steve Clarke as Scotland manager, McTominay has been selected as part of a three-man defence and looked comfortable in the unfamiliar position.

At club level, United have some issues with their centre-backs this season which has led to claims McTominay could be converted.

McTominay will line-up for Scotland on Thursday night in their Euro 2021 play-off final against Serbia.

And speaking ahead of the match, the 23-year-old opened up about how the position change came to fruition.

McTominay said: “Before, whenever the manager of Scotland asked me if it was a role I was comfortable with, I was like: ‘Of course’. Whatever the manager asks you to do, you do.
