McGregor invited to Real Madrid training after striking up friendship with Ramos

Sergio Ramos has invited UFC legend Conor McGregor to join in a Real Madrid training session after appearing impressed by the Irishman’s skills with the ball.

The pair have shared a number of exchanges on social media in recent weeks, which started with Ramos posting a video of himself impersonating McGregor’s famous strut celebration following a goal in training, along with the caption “What do you think, @TheNotoriousMMA?”

McGregor responded with a video of himself striking home a half-volley in a kickaround in his garden, along with the question “What do you think @sergioramos?”

The Spaniard replied: “Top class, mate! Fancy a training session at Real Madrid? More than welcome to join us anytime.”

And McGregor gladly accepted the offer, saying “My brother, thank you! The next time I am in Madrid I would be honoured.”

It remains to be seen if The Notorious actually ends up showing off his stuff in the Spanish capital, but it certainly appears that he and Ramos are forging an unlikely friendship.

McGregor, who retired from UFC for the third time last month, is known to be a big Manchester United fan, and was an admirer of his fellow compatriot Roy Keane in the past.

Speaking in a Q&A with FIFA last year, McGregor said: “I was more a player than a watcher back then, but Manchester United was my team.

Sergio Ramos celebrated in the style of Conor McGregor

“I was attracted to the success and winning mentality of the club and people surrounded by United. Irish legends like Denis Irwin and Roy Keane were dedicated to their craft and had that winning mentality.

“Roy Keane was one of the best midfielders European football has ever seen. Opponents would be mentally beaten before they’d even stepped on to the pitch to face him.”
