McFly have sparked speculation they’re getting ready for a comeback with cryptic video on Twitter.
The 18 second clip reveals a flashing image of a microphone and was posted on Monday night, marking the band’s first tweet in over a year.
The same microphone is also their profile photo on Twitter.
Fans were quick to celebrate and the post clocked up almost five thousand likes and 18 thousand retweets within hours.
They received the message loud and clear – taking it as confirmation Dougie Poynter, Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Tom Fletcher are ready to release their first album in nine years.
One person raved on Twitter: “I honestly am so excited just by this bloody video! Really hope its album 6 and going on tour!”
One more tweeted: “I was so excited about the video that I had to phone my Mum to tell her the news… in which she spent most of the time reminding me that I had to breathe!”
A third said: “I THINK I MIGHT CRY OMG I NEEDD THIS”
McFly’s most recent album, Above the Noise, was released in 2010.
They shot to fame in 2003 and have been on hiatus since 2016.
They haven’t released new music since 2013 single Love Is On The Radio, leaving fans desperate for a sixth studio album.
It was the band’s fifth release, six years after their debut Room on the 3rd Floor.
The news comes after Dougie Poynter teased a McFly comeback in January, when he revealed the band had booked time to write new songs.
Dougie said: ‘McFly will at least start writing by the summer and I can’t wait.
“I love that band and I love the guys. It’s awesome.”
Speaking to Sun Online earlier this month, Dougie refused to rule out an impending McFly comeback, teasing: “I can neither confirm or deny… Which means anything you want.”
He added: “McFly is my identity, I have been Dougie from McFly longer than I haven’t, I love that and it never gets boring. It’s good to know that people still care – I like that.”
