McDonald’s is bringing back the Grand Big Mac – but only for eight weeks

MCDONALD’S is bringing back the Grand Big Mac burger this Wednesday – but only for eight weeks.

Just like when the fast food chain rolled it out last year, Maccies fans can once again get it with bacon.

A regular Big Mac is made up of two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions and is sandwiched between a three-piece sesame seed bun.

The limited edition Grand Big Mac comes with the same ingredients, but in a bigger size.

It’ll be available in McDonald’s branches nationwide from January 29 to March 24. You can find your nearest one using its restaurant finder tool.

The burger comes with a recommended retail price of £4.39 on its own or £4.79 if you’d like bacon too.

McDonald’s classic products at a glance

HERE are some of our favourites meals from Maccies and when they launched:

  • 1968 – The Big Mac: The burger was first created in February 1968 by an American McDonald’s franchisee named Jim Delligatti in Pennsylvania, USA. Mr Delligatti originally wanted to call the burger “The Aristocrat”, however after consideration McDonald’s chose to go with the now famous name Big Mac.
  • 1972 – Egg McMuffin: The burger chain pioneered breakfast fast-food with the introduction of the Egg McMuffin in 1972. Five years later McDonald’s added a full breakfast line-up to the menu.
  • 1979 – Happy Meal: The famous combo meal from our childhood featuring a toy, was added to the menu in 1979.
  • 1983 – Chicken McNuggets: Introduced in 1983, these are small chicken chunks served with dipping sauces of barbecue, sweet n’ sour, honey, and hot mustard. Since their launch they are available in boxes of four, six or 10.
  • 1998 – McFlurry: The desserts, developed by a Canadian franchisee in 1997, proved popular when launched in the United States in the summer of 1998. We had to wait until 2000 before seeing the creamy treats in the UK.

The prices have gone up by 20p as the giant burger cost £4.19 on its own and £4.59 with bacon when McDonalds last sold them in January last year.

In comparison, a Big Mac costs £3.19 at McDonald’s.

Although, keep in mind that as McDonald’s is a franchise stores can set their own prices.

If you’re watching over your waistline, you might want to be aware of the calorie count before you tuck in.

The Grand Big Mac contains a hefty 731 calories per burger or if you add bacon, the calories increase to 781.

That’s more than a third of the average daily recommended calorie intake a man needs of 2,500 and just under half a woman’s recommended intake of 2,000 calories.

McDonald’s first revealed the new burgers in February 2018, and they were quickly snapped up by Maccies customers.

McDonald’s is set to launch a Big Mac dipping sauce from February 12 — so fans can have it with nuggets and fries too.

Meanwhile, three popular McDonald’s dishes including cheese melt dippers and spicy nuggets are disappearing from tomorrow.

Iceland shoppers are also raving about the supermarket’s £2 nuggets “that taste just like McDonald’s”.
