Mbappe makes declaration on PSG future after netting hat-trick at Barcelona

Kylian Mbappe insisted he is “happy” at Paris Saint-Germain after scoring a hat-trick against Barcelona – but warned it would be “stupid” to make a decision on his future after one match.

Mbappe was at his brilliant best at Camp Nou, netting a delightful first-half equaliser after Lionel Messi opened the scoring, and ruthlessly adding two more goals in the second half.

The Frenchman’s hat-trick, along with Moise Kean’s header, puts PSG firmly in command of the Champions League last-16 tie.

Mbappe is yet to win Europe’s premier competition with the Ligue 1 giants and speculation over the past year has linked him with a move to Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Addressing these transfer links after the full-time whistle, Mbappe told RMC Sport : “It would be stupid to decide my future on a single match.

“The truth is that it is about reflecting for the long term. I have always said that I am happy here. This sort of match makes me even happier.”

Mbappe’s performance in Catalonia will only intensify speculation over his future as he enters the final 18 months of his deal with PSG.

Meanwhile, Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman lamented his side’s defensive frailties which may have all but ended their Champions League campaign.

“Surely the result reflects how superior they have been,” said Koeman. “In the second half we had problems defensively.

“They proved physically to be very superior to us. We have to admit that they have been superior. They have shown that they have a more complete team than us.

“We have to accept it, improve things. We know that this can happen because we play against a great team, physical team, with experience and quality.”

Barcelona will need a miracle to overturn the deficit as they travel to Parc des Princes in March, as they will need to score at least four goals to have any chance of progressing.
