Max George has called his bandmate Tom Parker’s brain tumour diagnosis ‘devastating’.

The Wanted star Tom, 32, revealed last month that he has been diagnosed with an inoperable stage four glioblastoma, a terminal brain tumour, after suffering seizures.

Max, also 32, admitted that the news was hard to take, and compared Tom to a ‘big brother’.

Speaking to The Sun, the Glad You Came singer – who is competing on Strictly Come Dancing – said: ‘It’s difficult to put into words really. It’s devastating to hear.

‘I think about Tom all the time. Tom’s always been an inspiration to me anyway, I always look up to Tom as a big brother, he is the leader of the band and even with what he’s going through, it just proves how strong he is mentally and I normally ring him on a Sunday and we have a laugh about what I’ve done the night before.’

Tom jokingly called Max a ‘k***head’ after the singer accidentally spilled that Tom’s wife Kelsey had given birth to their second child, a son called Bodhi, on Lorraine.

Not realising that Tom and Kelsey hadn’t announced the news themselves, Max told the ITV star: ‘I spoke to him yesterday and he’s doing good, he’s doing great.

‘Kelsey gave birth to their second child last week, so, yeah, he’s a fighter, Tom will be alright.’

Tom admitted that he is finding being hands-on with his newborn tough as he undergoes treatment for the tumour.

The father-of-two confirmed that he was battling a tumour with an Instagram post followed by an interview in OK magazine.

He wrote: ‘There’s no easy way to say this but I’ve sadly been diagnosed with a Brain Tumour and I’m already undergoing treatment. We decided, after a lot of thought, that rather than hiding away and trying to keep it a secret, we would do one interview where we could lay out all the details and let everyone know the facts in our own way.

‘We are all absolutely devastated but we are gonna fight this all the way. We don’t want your sadness, we just want love and positivity and together we will raise awareness of this terrible disease and look for all available treatment options. It’s gonna be a tough battle but with everyone’s love and support we are going to beat this.’

While Tom may have laughed about Max’s bonkers The Simpsons themed routine on last week’s Strictly, things won’t be as surreal tonight – hopefully – as he and Dianne Buswell perform an American Smooth.

The couple will be dancing to Harry Connick Jr’s It Had To Be You in the hopes of making it to week five.

Max has a high bar to reach thanks to his The Wanted bandmate Jay McGuiness, who won the 13th series of Strictly in 2015 with Aliona Vilani.
