Maurizio Sarri has identified Inter’s Matias Vecino as a potential summer signing.

The Chelsea manager is not guaranteed to be at Stamford Bridge come the end of the season with Chelsea struggling to cement a top four place in the Premier League.

Indeed, the west London club’s most likely route back into the Champions League looks to be via winning the Europa League having been drawn against rank outsiders Slavia Prague in the quarter finals.

Chelsea have dropped five points from from their last two Premier League games against Wolves and Everton and have suffered from a chronic lack of goals from midfield.

Summer signing Jorginho, one of Sarri’s former Napoli charges, has scored just once from open play all season, Ross Barkley is without a Premier League goal since October, while N’Golo Kante has scored just three times in his new advanced role.

Sarri attempted to address Chelsea’s impotency in front of goal during the January transfer window by offloading Alvaro Morata and signing Gonzalo Higuain on loan.

The Argentine international, prolific under Sarri at Napoli, has scored in just two of his 10 Chelsea appearances so far and is struggling both ‘mentally’ and ‘physically’, according to his manager.

Despite Chelsea’s and his own precarious position, Sarri is said to be planning for the upcoming transfer window and has identified Uruguay international Vecino as a primary target.

Mateo Kovacic, who is yet to score in 40 appearances for Chelsea, is likely to be sent back to Real Madrid in the summer and Vecino, who has five goals this season, including a Champions League winner against Spurs, is high on Sarri’s wishlist, according to Tuttosport.

The pair worked together at Empoli and Inter value the 27-year-old at €30million.
