Mauricio Pochettino’s assistant shares heartbreaking picture of his goodbye message to Tottenham players

Mauricio Pochettino left an emotional message for Tottenham’s players after he was dismissed

Mauricio Pochettino’s assistant, Jesus Perez, has shared a picture of the classy farewell message the Argentine left for Tottenham’s players after he was axed by chairman Daniel Levy.

Spurs confirmed on Tuesday evening that Pochettino had been relieved of his duties after five years in charge and Jose Mourinho was named as his successor the following morning.

Levy’s decision to sack Pochettino came so suddenly that the manager was unable to say his goodbyes in the way he would have liked as he was hurried out the exit door.

Instead, Pochettino penned a hastily written note for squad on a whiteboard in the dressing room at Tottenham’s training ground.

Perez, who followed Pochettino from Southampton back in May 2014, tweeted a picture of the emotional message on Thursday evening and it was simply too much for some Spurs fans.

‘Big thanks to you all!’ it read.

‘We can’t say goodbye…. you will always be in our (hearts).’

I’m not crying, YOU’RE crying…

Jose Mourinho paid tribute to the work done by his predecessor in his opening press conference ahead of Spurs’ trip to West Ham.

‘I’ve been smiling for two days. First of all, and I do it with a bit of sadness, I have to speak about Mauricio,’ the Portuguese said.

‘I have to congratulate him for the work that he did. I have to share with you what we already shared indoors which is that this club will always be his home, this training ground will always be his training ground.

‘He can come when he wants, when he misses the players, when he misses the players that he worked with. The door is always open for him.

‘From my experience, tomorrow is another day. He will find happiness again. He will find a great club again, and he will have a great future.

‘He gave everything, every day at the club and he will leave with a sad feeling, but a feeling that he did great work.

‘So I would just like to say that because it it is what everyone at the club feels about it also. He will always be welcome here.’
