Mauricio Pochettino admits he would ‘love’ to be given the opportunity to coach in Spain again amid mounting speculation surrounding his future.
The Argentine is currently enduring the most testing period of his Tottenham tenure with the club languishing in 14th position having won just three of their opening 12 Premier League games this season.
The Telegraph reported earlier this week that the 47-year-old, who joined Spurs in the summer of 2014, had held crisis talks with chairman Daniel Levy, while senior players are said to be preparing themselves for a change of management.
Pochettino’s struggling side travel to West Ham on Saturday and defeat could spell the end for the former Southampton boss, with Spurs already reported to have drawn up a list of potential replacements which includes the likes of Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann and Carlo Ancelotti.
Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, is said to be open to the idea of coaching Spurs, having last month been linked with a potential upcoming vacancy at north London rivals Arsenal.
Pochettino, meanwhile, built his managerial career in Spain with Espanyol and he freely admits he could be tempted by a return.
Asked whether a return to Spain could be an option, he told Diario La Grada, ‘Yes. Look, although you never know.
‘We are Latinos. I like this city, La Liga and I love this club. I am enjoying England very much, and I don’t know when or where, but I would love to return to Spain.’
Pochettino’s possible departure would represent a significant blow to a number of players whose careers he has helped launch, including Harry Winks who scored his first senior England goal in midweek.
Winks told talkSPORT: ‘I’ve said many times and I’ll always say it I’ve got everything to thank for the gaffer.
‘He’s given me that opportunity I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for him.
‘Of course I’ve had to work hard to get there. Getting that opportunity in the first place and I’m forever thankful.’
