Mauricio Pochettino insists he will not make any rushed decisions in the wake of Tottenham’s 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening and believes the opening 30 minutes of their Champions League nightmare was the best his side have played this season.

Son Heung-Min opened the scoring for Spurs after 12 minutes but the hosts found themselves 2-1 down by half time following two excellent finishes from Joshua Kimmich and Robert Lewandowski.

Spurs then had a second half to forget as Serge Gnabry scored four times while Lewandowski netted his second of the game to complete Bayern’s impressive win.

‘You know the most important thing is to move on in this situation always to assess the team assess our players that’s my most difficult job for us I think,’ Pochettino said after the game.

‘After five years and six seasons here I think to be clear and to try to of course work like always trying to give solutions to the players.

‘I think we are very critical with ourselves of course the final was a why to fix the final but we move on but it’s now psychological damage to us talking to each other now we need one idea, one analysis, one assessment and we need to stick with this idea and from there we start to improve.

‘This result is tough but most important is to stay calm and not rush judgement, rush assessment, we must take a few hours.

‘I repeat my feeling after 40 mins it was good, the stadium expects but this is football and how it changes. We need to work but it was as strange game. We were unlucky.

‘To be honest after 30 mins of first half was my best feeling managing the team this season.

‘That is so difficult to accept how after the second half changed the feeling and the result is very bad, but if you face talented players like Bayern have, they are an amazing team of course you like because at the end the team was okay… we lost, but they were clinical.

‘We give credit to them and of course for us we need to move on at the end we lose three points but we need to move on to face Brighton.

‘Of course next Champions League game we play here and we need to win.’
