Mauricio Pochettino is willing to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Mancheester United at the end of the season, but wants control over transfers.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has been long admired by the United board and was thought to be their first choice after parting ways with Jose Mourinho midway through last season.

Solskjaer earned the full-time gig after impressing as interim manager but has failed to turn United’s fortunes around and the club’s hierarchy are considering their options.

Pochettino and Max Allegri are the top contenders to replace Solskjaer as Manchester United manager, according to Alfredo Pedulla, and talks have already begun with the ex-Spurs and Southampton boss.

And while Pochettino is willing to take control of the club in the summer, he has insisted on having guarantees in place over arrivals at Old Trafford.

Recruitment has been a big problem for Manchester United in recent years, with Mourinho’s frustrated response to the failure to deliver top targets being one of the key reasons behind his departure.

They are in danger of leaving Solskjaer short in the second half of the season, with a deal for Bruno Fernandes dragging on and Marcus Rashford’s injury leaving them scrambling for a new striker after being left short of options in attack.

Solskjaer’s time at the club may well be up but United will only land their long-term target if they allow him to be heavily involved on the incomings and outgoings.
