Mauricio Pochettino insists Tottenham will NOT suffer stage fright in Champions League final

Mauricio Pochettino has warned his Spurs stars will not suffer stage fright on the biggest night in the club’s history.

The north Londoners have a fit Harry Kane in their squad as they bid to make Liverpool the biggest of their Champions League scalps at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Pochettino said: “It’s amazing to go back the months ago to when we started pre-season, to think that we would be here 10 months later.

“When the players arrive they will be closed, concentrated on the competition and they will express themselves.

“Under stress, there is always a period of automatic pilot and you need to feel safe. More than ever when you have one billion watching you.

Pochettino is bullish over his side’s chances

“We want to write the history in football and we know very well what we need to do.”

The Spurs boss paid tribute to his side’s mental strength and unity in overcoming a string of setbacks to put themselves on the brink of footballing immortality.

He added: “Our team has been robust for ten months. We couldn’t bring in new players. We decided not to sell. We sold Mousa Dembele in January because his dream was to go to China.

“We haven’t been able to play in new stadium, at Wembley until a couple of months ago, at a time when we couldn’t do things the way we wanted. We came into the crucial part of the season with that.

“All of those difficulties made us stronger as a group, more creative and we have shown if you believe and work hard in football you are rewarded.

Pochettino is bidding to win his first trophy as Tottenham boss

Spurs managed to win just two of their final eight games of the season compared to 13 wins out of 14 in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

But of more concern to Pochettino is the “painful” choice of whether to start Kane or Lucas Moura, the hat-trick hero in the semi-final against Ajax.

He went on: “It’s not easy decision to take. We have all the information. We know every single detail.

“We will take every decision to try to win. You can use only eleven players. That is the most painful situation. The energy of the players not in the team is going be decisive. Even though they will be hurting inside.”
