Matthew McConaughey has revealed he was estranged from his mother Kay for eight years because she wasn’t keeping their conversations private.

The actor admitted he was so disappointed to learn his mother had been speaking to media about their chats that he chose to cut her off in order to set ‘some boundaries’.

Speaking on The Howard Stern Show, he explained: ‘I would have conversations and then all of a sudden—whoop—what we’d talk about would end up in the paper three days later.’

Not only did the star’s mother share details about their conversations, Matthew reached his tipping point when he learnt that she had given a televised tour of his childhood home.

When asked if he stopped talking to his mother after she showed off the bed where ‘he lost his virginity,’ the 50-year-old admitted those years were ‘tough’ for the pair.

He recalled that a friend had been the one to alert him about the interview and when he called his mother to confront her, Kay admitted: ‘Oh that, I didn’t think you’d find out.’

Matthew explained: ‘She was always still my mom, but she became a different person.

‘Look, nobody is perfect. This was something that was out of the realm of any relationship my mother has ever had.’

Thankfully, time has been a healer and Matthew had been able to forgive Kay for the mistake.

He stated: ‘It was tough for eight years, but we went through it and we’re on the other side of it. It’s good.’

In fact, she has been quarantining with the actor, his wife, Camila Alves and their children, Levi, 12, Vida, 10, and Livingston, seven.

Matthew’s been making headlines on the promo tour for his new memoir, Greenlights, in which he opened up about the fact his dad died while having sex with his mother.

Turns out his father had even predicted that was the way he would leave this world.
