Matt Smith and Lily James split? Has golden couple gone separate ways?

But consolation could be at hand from Matt’s former on-screen wife – Claire Foy. The 35-year-old actress, who played young Queen Elizabeth opposite his Prince Philip in The Crown, is said to supporting him through the breakup. Matt was a no-show for Lily’s premiere of Rare Beasts at the BFI London Film Festival in October, even though he had helped to develop the script with pop star turned actress Billie Piper who wrote and directed. And Lily, who found fame as Lady Rose MacClare in ITV’s Downton Abbey, was not seen at his 37th birthday celebrations later that month.

Matt was spotted walking across Hampstead Heath near his north London home with a male friend over the weekend.

The star wrapped up warm to enjoy some winter sun in an aviator jacket, scarf and blue beanie hat with sunglasses.

Meanwhile 30-year-old Lily has been soaking up summer in Cape Town with friend and stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray.

The actress posted a series of holiday snaps on her Instagram page of the pair horse riding, gazing out over a sunset and stroking a cheetah.

Lily and Matt met in 2014 on the set of thriller Pride And Prejudice And Zombies.

At the time, Matt was the better known thanks to his stint as BBC’s Doctor Who.

But Lily has since starred in movies including Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Baby Driver.

She is set to appear in a remake of psychological thriller Rebecca with US actor Armie Hammer.

Lily last year said she wanted to settle down with Matt, while he said he looked forward to having children.

Smith and Foy are said to have become firm friends while filming two series of the Netflix hit.

Last month, they reunited in Lungs at the Old Vic Theatre in London.

She announced her split from her actor husband Stephen Campbell Moore, 41, in February last year.

They have a daughter Ivy, four.
