Matt Reeves has given another indication of the different direction he’ll be taking in The Batman.

The director admitted that Robert Pattinson’s version on the Caped Crusader will not be ‘fully formed’ and that he will be incredibly haunted by the past.

In an interview with Nerdist, Matt explained: ‘I just felt like well, what I’d love to do is get a version of this Batman character where he’s not yet fully formed.

‘Where there’s something to do in this context with who that guy would be in this world today, and to ground him in all of these broken ways.

He continued: ‘Because at the end of the day, this guy is doing all of this to deal with trauma in his past.’

‘I wanted to do not an origin tale, but a tale that would still acknowledge his origins, in that it formed who he is.

Matt added: ‘Like this guy, he’s majorly struggling, and this is how he’s trying to rise above that struggle.’

‘There’s something in there that feels very psychological, very emotional, and it felt like there was a way of exploring that along with the corruption in this place, Gotham. That feels very current. I think it always does.’

The director also opened up on his desire to make his movie – which sees R-Patz make his debut as the iconic hero – ‘distinctive’ from previous Batman films.

Like most other films, The Batman has halted production for the foreseeable future amid the coronavirus.

When a fan tweeted Matt asking about whether The Batman is experiencing delays, like many other movies in production, Matt replied: ‘Yes, we have shut down till it is safe for us all to resume.’

He added: ‘Everyone safe for the moment, thank you for asking, and stay safe too…’
