Matt Lucas in hilarious Boris Johnson spoof to launch Great British Bake Off

Matt Lucas channeled his inner Boris Johnson in a hilarious spoof of one of the Prime Minister’s Downing Street coronairus daily brieifings.

The Little Britain comedian nailed the Prime Minister’s floppy blond hair and stuttering delivery in a special prelude to tonight’s Great British Bake Off series opener – Lucas’ first as presenter.

The 46-year-old mumbled and bumbled his way through a garbled message, telling baking enthusiasts to use “common sense” over their hundreds and thousands use.

In the hilarious clip, Lucas says: “We are now approaching Phase 46.

“Which means that from Tuesday morning, or Wednesday evening depending on your height, we are, we are, saying in regards to baking: ‘If you must bake in a tent, bake in a tent.

“But please don’t bake in a tent.

“And we are asking people to use common sense with regards to the distribution of hundreds and thousands.”

Following the confusing, contradictory and downright nonsensical speech, Lucas then goes to take questions from “the lady in the funky dress” – his co-host Noel Fielding.

The veteran Bake Off presenter asks: “Is it sc-oh-ne or sc-on?”

A bewildered looking Lucas then brings in his experts, played by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, who, of course, give completely differing answers.

The ‘Prime Minister’ then finishes by saying: “Right, well I hope that clears things up for you.”

One person wrote: “BIG mood. His Boris impression is spot on.”

While another said: “Absolutely superb. Matt Lucas is more Bojo than Boris Johnson is (and makes far more sense). Wish he was in charge instead!”

And a third commented: “This was hilarious. Matt Lucas does an excellent impression of Boris.”
