Matt Lucas’ hit charity single Thank You Baked Potato has been heading to the top 10 on the Official Charts.

The comedian is currently at number five and the money raised from the single goes to Feed NHS, which aims to get hot meals to NHS staff and critical care workers across the country during the coronavirus crisis.

The charity was set up by Matt along with Damien Lewis and Helen Mcrory.

Matt Lucas was stunned by the reaction to his newly updated song.

The 46-year-old first dropped the tune in his panel show Shooting Stars way back in the early 90s.

He adapted it in a bid to remind people to take isolation seriously, and wash their hands in the wake of the health scare.

After dropping it on Twitter, the Little Britain favourite officially released the track as a single – which has soared up the charts.

At the time of writing, Matt helped raise £840,000 for the NHS.

He spoke on Lorraine Kelly and said: ‘This is an old song I did 20 years ago. I just put it up on Twitter, I thought hardly anybody would see it, but it’s had several million views.

‘…I’m wondering if we can get to number one because all the money we raise from sales of the song will go to Feed NHS.’

Meanwhile, Drake’s new hit song Toosie Slide is set for the highest new entry.

Has anyone nailed the moves yet?

Following the death of soul legend Bill Withers, three of his classic tracks might re-enter this week’s Official Singles Chart.

Lean On Me is at 16, Ain’t No Sunshine is at 18, and Lovely Day is at 26.
