Matt Baker's wife speaks out after being inundated with messages about Our Farm episodes

The show, based around Matt Baker and wife Nicola’s life on an organic sheep farm in the Durham hills, has won the hearts of viewers around the country. The aptly named Bakers are well-known for their penchant for creating tasty treats and this recipe reveals how, with little more than sugar, butter, eggs, flour, treacle and a generous helping of stem ginger, viewers can emulate them.

“Episode 4 of Our Farm in the Dales is on tonight at 9pm on More 4!” Nicola wrote, before adding: “So many of you have been messaging to ask for recipes from series 1 & 2 so I thought I’d post one of the Veg Patch Cupcakes from Ep 2.”

The star advises to bake the cupcakes for just “15-20 minutes – or until a knife comes out clean”.

“You can also make this into a small cake or a loaf if you’d rather – just bake it for longer,” she explained.

She added: “For younger children you can leave out the stem ginger and add in an extra teaspoon of ground ginger.”

Although her hashtag encouraged users to “eatyourveggies”, this is a format that even the fussiest of eaters are likely to get on board with.

Besides cakes with faux cauliflowers and carrots embellishing the top, Instagrammers can also take note of her huge Halloween cake, with a spider across the top, and her bat-themed offerings.

They make great inspiration for treats that fans will have plenty of time to perfect for next year’s celebrations.

Meanwhile, the show has proved equally entertaining for viewers, with one recent episode showing the family naming their new pygmy goat kid arrivals.

Though Nicola might have much less experience in the world of TV – and so far has 26,000 Instagram followers, in comparison to her husband’s 287,000 – she has still proved a hit with viewers and is regarded as a “rising star”.

Formerly a physiotherapist, she is also a writer and, as fans of her recipes know, a keen baker.

Plus her leadership skills were put to the test when Matt left to participate in The Great Rickshaw Relay Challenge for Children in Need, leaving her to run the 100-acre farm – news which he recently revealed exclusively to the Express.co.uk.

She may, of course, benefit from a little help from the couple’s children, aged 14 and 12 – and Matt’s mum Janice.

“[Nicola] is incredible, she’s so organised, she is the most amazing person,” he gushed.

“It was the best day of my life when I met Nicola, there’s no doubt about that.”

Plus despite a traumatising accident last year when she was knocked over by sheep, requiring a knee replacement, Janice still plays an active role on the farm as a shepherdess who keeps everything in check.

Viewers can enjoy the second series now, following the family as they navigate life on a farm filled with lambs, goats, adorable puppies and more.

Episode 4 of Our Farm In The Dales airs tonight at 9pm on More4.
