Matt Baker, 42, took the opportunity to wish his 71,000 Instagram followers a Happy New Year last week while sharing some emotional family news. The One Show presenter opened up to fans in a rare insight into his home life while filming his sheep grazing in the sun on his farm.
Matt began by quipping in reference to the flock: “I just wanted to wish you all a very happy ewe year.”
He then went on to reveal one of the sheep has been named after his late grandfather, who sadly passed away “a few months ago”.
The Countryfile favourite explained, while zooming in on the animal: “This is Jackson and he’s the son of a tup (ram) that my late grandpa bought us.
“That tup was called Hijack, my grandpa was called Jack, and today would have been my grandpa’s 99th birthday.

A third fan commented: “Happy New Year Matt, sorry to hear about your grandpa but what an age he got to!”
Matt’s farm is in Hertfordshire, and has been seen by viewers on an episode of Countryfile.
The farm is worked on by all the family and Matt’s two children Molly and Luke often help out with daily tasks.
Matt previously wrote a day in the life diary for Countryfile’s website, and divulged some of the activities his kids enjoy doing, including numbering the sheep with a can of spray paint, and feeding them.
Elsewhere, the presenter shared a funny clip of his wife Nicola Baker dealing with some “drama” while he was away from home performing in Goldilocks and the Three Bears at the London Palladium.
Matt witnessed Nicola’s unfortunate mishap on a FaceTime call and couldn’t help but record his other half as she got tangled up with a drone.
In the soundless clip, which he posted on Instagram last month, Nicola could be seen shaking her head to try to remove the flashing toy from a strand of her brunette hair.
Fortunately, the couple’s children were on hand to help out and tried to assist their mum in detaching the drone.
