A fifth shared: “Thank you Matt for the laughs the humility and the warmth, enjoy the time with your family. Much love.”

Matt announced his news on The One Show earlier today and issued a statement via the BBC.

He said: “I’ve loved that The One Show has been such a big part of my life for the last nine years.

“It’s been brilliant to showcase the eclectic mix of Britain, meet incredible people along the way and witness so many lives changed with the annual Rickshaw Challenge for Children in Need.

“The One Show has been a massive part of my life for almost a decade now and I’ve loved every single second of being part of it.

“But I am going to be leaving this green sofa in the spring.

“It’s time to give somebody else the opportunity to see how big-hearted and generous you, our One Show viewers, really are.”

It’s currently unknown who will replace Matt, but it seems the BBC have time to make their decision.

While today marked his last show before Christmas, Matt won’t be leaving until “the Spring”.

Matt joined the show in 2010 as a guest presenter, before returning the following year as a full-time host.

He replaced Jason Manford and sat alongside regular, Alex Jones, between Mondays and Thursdays.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
