MONEYBAGS Match of the Day host Gary Lineker says he would be worth £150million as a player now.

The 59-year-old added that his wages as a player “didn’t compare” to the likes of Neymar’s £900,000 a week.

Speaking on his Behind Closed Doors podcast with Danny Baker, the ex-England striker revealed he started off earning £16 a week in the youth academy at Leicester City.

When he left in 1985, he was on £400 a week.

Lineker won the Golden Boot at the 1986 World Cup, with six goals.

Talking about current holder Harry Kane, he said: “I think he has a reported £200million price tag.”

Danny Baker then piped up: “In your prime? I suppose £150million?”

To which Lineker replied: “Yeah, I suppose about that.”

Baker then said: “You’ve gone pale — your tan’s faded. Do you ever think about it (the money)?”

Lineker said: “Nah, I’ve done all right.”

Lineker also told the podcast: “My last contract at Leicester — I was on £400 a week. I’m not whining . . . it was brilliant, but . . .” He also played for

Everton, Barcelona, Spurs and Japan’s Grampus Eight, retiring in 1994.
