MasterChef's Laura Sharrad says it was 'really horrible' receiving nasty backlash from other women

‘I just think it’s really horrible’: MasterChef runner-up Laura Sharrad hits back at the nasty backlash on social media from women

MasterChef: Back To Win runner-up Laura Sharrad faced plenty of backlash on social media.

And on Wednesday, she told PopSugar most of the negative messages she and winner Emelia Jackson had received were from other women.

The chef, 25, said: ‘I think honestly the hardest part to understand about it all is that there are so many women out there who are so successful and driving organisations to get equal rights with women and men, whether it’s pay or whatever it is, but most of the people who are nasty towards me are women, and also to Emelia.’

‘I just think it’s really horrible to see other women dragging women down.’

She also admitted that she was confused by the nasty reactions after starring on the cooking show in 2014 when she was just 18, as social media was not allowed until the end of the show.

‘I’m 25, I’ve kind of found who I am, I’m a strong woman, I voice my opinions quite loudly and I don’t like to put up with too much bullsh*t,’ she said, adding she wasn’t sure if viewers found her personality now as over confident or cocky.

Throughout the season, Laura was criticised for many things on social media, including cooking pasta too much, her interactions with the other cooks and connections with judge Jock Zonfrillo.

She also spoke to Now To Love about the negative messages she’s received, calling it ‘disappointing’.

‘It’s quite disappointing with so much going on in the world at the moment that people still want to tear others down and tear down a strong female who is successful.’

The talented chef said she feels sorry for the minority of people who stooped to that level, she said most of the feedback she’s got has been positive.

‘The way I’m looking at it, 98 per cent of it is so positive and there is so much love out there that counteracts that negativity. There’s always going to be people who don’t like you and you can’t please everyone,’ she added.

Laura came in second place in the grand finale of MasterChef: Back To Win behind her good friend Emilia Jackson.
