Irini Tzortzoglou was named MasterChef winner, as she took the cooking crown over finalists Jilly McCord and Delia Maria Asser.

The 61-year-old stole the show with an epic three-course finale, serving John Torode meals inspired by her childhood, as well as her Greek heritage.

And it seems viewers were as impressed with her cooking as the judges, hailing the show the ‘best ever final’.

Flocking to Twitter, a fan said: ‘Well done Irini, wish she was my Nan, what an absolute babe and sweet person #MasterChef.’

While another commented: ‘Congratulations Irina! Delia and Jilly were sensational too. Best finalists ever #masterchef.’

‘Masterchef was amazing this year and I loved all three finalists,’ an impressed viewer said.

‘They were the three I definitely wanted in the final and I am so happy for Irini. I wish I could cook like that #masterchef.’

Us too, hun.

Irini had the judges singing her praises as she cooked up Red Mullet with squid risotto for starters, with a main of lamb chops and a dreamy hazelnut and fig baklava to finish.

And, after appearing in the first all-female MasterChef final, she asked if she could split the trophy with her fellow finalists.

Kind of like in Mean Girls, but a chef’s version…

‘I’m trembling, I’m floating on air, I don’t think my feet are touching the ground right now,’ she said after her win.

‘What an experience, I just don’t have the words to say how thrilled and grateful I am.

‘I can finally say I believe in me; I believe it takes something tough at times, but that strength can surface, and when it does it can achieve wonders.’

John was seriously impressed by her cooking, explaining: ‘Taking the food that she knows from the island of Crete and putting it into a modern context – that’s what Irini does and it’s stunning.

‘She has a magic in her finger tips and a fire in her belly. She wanted to make her grandchildren proud – she’s done that!’

While Gregg added: ‘Irini’s little touches of Greek flavours and Greek ingredients are nothing short of inspired.

‘You can learn cooking technique, what you can’t put into somebody is absolute love and passion, and Irini is just bursting with it. It’s from the heart every time she cooks.’
