Mason Mount could be in contention for Chelsea’s clash with Crystal Palace this Saturday despite suffering an ankle injury earlier this week.

The 20-year-old was forced off after rolling his right ankle in the second half of Chelsea’s 4-4 draw with Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Mount has already injured the same ankle earlier this season during Chelsea’s defeat at home to Valencia in the Champions League in September, although the midfielder suffered no ligament damage on that occasion.

Mount was considered a doubt for Chelsea’s next match against Palace at Stamford Bridge this Saturday but the midfielder has provided Frank Lampard with a boost as he trained on Thursday.

He will now undergo a fitness test on Friday to determine whether he will be available for the clash at home to Roy Hodgson’s side.

Speaking after the draw against Ajax, Lampard said of Mount’s ankle injury: ‘They’ve strapped his ankle and hopefully it’s relatively minor.’

Mount has also been included in Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of England’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro and Kosovo later this month.
