Marvel’s Avengers getting new superhero and supervillain in December

The first major slice of DLC for Square Enix’s Avengers game will be ready in early December and features Kate Bishop and Super Adaptoid.

There’s been a lot of talk recently about how Marvel’s Avengers has underperformed, with the game only selling 60% of what Square Enix initially hoped, and that’s not been helped by a number of delays to its promised free DLC.

The coronavirus was the main cause for the delay but you’ve got to wonder whether focusing your first big DLC drop around Kate Bishop and Super Adaptoid was really the best way to go.

Neither have been in any of the Marvel movies and while Kate is great in the comics Super Adaptoid is basically just another robot – the Marvel equivalent of DC’s supervillain Amazo, who can mimic all of the regular Avengers’ abilities.

Kate Bishop is the protégé of Clint Barton and has taken the name Hawkeye before, although she just seems to be using her actual name in the game.

She’ll be introduced via a new set of story missions, which are already being teased in-game by the new Tachyon missions. The idea is that the story will be concluded when Clint Barton is also added as a playable character in ‘early’ 2021.

The idea has always been that Square Enix will add a steady stream of new playable characters, villains, and missions to the game, although the next one after Barton is supposed to be Spider-Man – who’s a PlayStation exclusive.

Black Panther and War Machine have also been rumoured, based on datamined information, but they’ve not been officially announced.

Not only did the DLC get delayed but so did the planned next gen versions, but there’s still no date for when they’ll be available. Although when they are done, they’ll be a free upgrade if you have the original version.
