Martin Kemp couldn’t resist making a little dig at his son Roman Kemp’s extent as he joined his wife Shirlie on Loose Women.

As the husband and wife talked about Roman’s stint in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle, the former EastEnders star remarked how he looked better on the show than he’d ever seen him before.

‘He looks better while he’s in the jungle than he does when I see him usually,’ Martin confessed.

Trying to dig himself out of his hole, Martin continued: ‘He’s knackered because you know he’s a radio jock, does his breakfast show. When I see him usually he’s knackered.’

The singer also explained why he’s been voting for Roman to do all the Bushtucker Trials.

‘He grew up as one of those YouTube kids who played pranks on everyone, including me and Shirley over the years,’ Martin said. ‘I thought what a perfect time to get him back. So I spent all my votes on putting him in.’

Meanwhile, Shirlie admitted that she likes watching Roman on the ITV show because it means she knows where he is at all times.

‘We’ve always loved the show,’ she added. ‘It is surreal when you see your son on there because I’m looking at things other people aren’t looking for: Is he tired? Oh, he needs to rest more…’

Sadly for Martin, Roman won’t be taking on tonight’s Bushtucker Trial as campmates James Haskell and Ian Wright have been nominated to face huge spiders in a horribly dark tunnel.

In a first-look trailer, hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly looked genuinely concerned as the duo tried to navigate their way through.

Will the pair be able to make it through the challenge and win stars for the fellow celebs? Only time will tell…

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
