Married At First Sight: Techniques producers use to create drama revealed

Reality TV insider reveals the clever techniques Married At First Sight producers use to stir the pot and create maximum drama

A reality TV insider has lifted the lid on what really goes on behind-the-scenes filming shows such as Married At First Sight.

Speaking to the Not Here To Make Friends podcast this week, former Bachelor producer Jana Hocking, revealed that producers often use things that contestants admit in private against them.

‘As a former producer, I have one tip. Should you ever, enter a reality show. Fake it!’ Jana insisted.

‘Don’t say, ‘I’m petrified of spiders’, [because] they’re going to put you in a room full of spiders!’ she added.

Jana, who now works at Triple M radio, also spilled the secret technique producers use to dress contestants in unflattering outfits.

Speaking directly to wannabe reality stars, Jana explained: ‘Always say, ‘I don’t care about my dress’, then producers will put you in a fitted dress.’

‘If you say that you really care about your dress, they’ll put you in an ill-fitting, disgusting dress and then say, ‘You look amazing!’ Spoiler! You don’t. Get it fitted!’ she exclaimed.

Jana also admitted that she was asked to star on MAFS this year, but turned down the invitation because she knew producers would set her up with the wrong man.

‘My old boss works on [MAFS] now and he knows my exact opposite type (of guy) — and they would match me with that!’ she insisted.

On Sunday’s episode of MAFS, Connie Craydon’s mother Rina also sensationally blasted the show’s ‘manipulative editing’ while speaking to producers at her daughter’s wedding.

‘This interview for example, you’re going to take bits out and not play everything that I’ve said, that’s for sure,’ Rina said, when asked about her issues with the show.

Married At First Sight continues Monday at 7:30pm on Channel Nine
