Married At First Sight: Mel Schilling on rumours celebrities are joining the experiment

EXCLUSIVE: Married At First Sight expert Mel Schilling sets the record straight on rumours celebrities will be on next year’s season

Married At First Sight producers are said to be looking at casting celebrities and former contestants in a bid to boost ratings next year.

And one of the show’s relationship experts, Mel Schilling, thinks it could be a fun experiment but doesn’t believe there is any truth to the rumours.

She told Daily Mail Australia: ‘I’ve heard nothing on that part from what I’ve read in the press. So I suspect it’s a rumour. I don’t know if there’s any truth to that at all.’

The therapist, 48, admitted she did not know how having a celebrity would even work in the social experiment.

‘I mean, it could certainly be fun,’ Mel said. ‘You know, it could certainly add a really fun element to it, to the experiment.

‘But I don’t actually know whether that’s on the cards.’

Adding excitement: Mel (left with Dr. Trisha Stratford and John Aiken) said she suspected it was 'just a rumour', but agreed that adding celebrities to the mix would add a 'fun element'

It comes after NW magazine reported that producers were looking at bringing back past participants, including the likes of Nasser Sultan and Tracey Jewel.

The network was said to be considering a ‘re-brand’ for 2021 inspired by Australian Survivor’s latest season, tentatively calling the new series MAFS: All-Stars.

Producers at Endemol Shine had apparently asked several former participants if they were interested in returning to the franchise.

To support its claims, NW published what appeared to be a leaked text message from MAFS relationship expert John Aiken to an anonymous celebrity.

John had supposedly wrote: ‘We are trying to figure out if we want celebrity marrying a celebrity for the season or celebrities paired up with strangers on the outside.

‘We will have a video call tomorrow morning to discuss agreements further and I’ll let you know the other celebrity names who are currently on board.’

Casting for Married At First Sight’s eighth season is under way in Sydney, but it’s believed production has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

MAFS is typically filmed between late August and December, but the 2021 season will most likely begin filming in December and conclude in March.
