Maroon 5 star Mickey Madden has confirmed he is ‘taking leave of absence’ from the band, following his recent arrest.

The 41-year-old was arrested at the end of June on a felony charge in Los Angeles over an alleged domestic violence incident.

Details surrounding the incident are unclear. Madden has since been released from custody after posting his $50,000 (£39k) bond.

Releasing a statement to People, the bassist confirmed he is stepping away from Maroon 5 as the band – whose other members include Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, James Valentine, Matt Flynn, PJ Morton and Sam Farrar – announced new dates for their US tour.

Madden said: ‘I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence from Maroon 5 for the foreseeable future.

‘During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates. I wish them the absolute best.’

A spokesperson for Maroon 5 had said of Madden’s arrest last month: ‘We are deeply devastated by this disappointing news. As we learn more, we are looking at this very seriously.

‘For now, we are allowing all of the individuals involved the space to work things through.’

Madden’s leave of absence comes after Maroon 5 tweeted their rescheduled tour dates, after their original shows back in May had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The band’s US tour will now take place in July 2021, with their tweet reading: ‘ANNOUNCEMENT: We’ve rescheduled the US 2020 tour dates and are looking forward to being back on tour with you next year!

‘Tickets are available NOW, with the exception of the NEW Madison Square Garden show on September 10, 2021 which goes on sale Friday, July 24.’

A spokesperson for the LAPD confirmed news of Madden’s arrest to Metro.co.uk, with the charge described as ‘wilfully inflicting a traumatic injury on a spouse or cohabitant’.

Madden is expected to appear in court on 29 September over the alleged charges.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to a spokesperson for both Mickey Madden and Maroon 5.
