MARKS & Spencer has been forced to change the name of its Porn Star Martini cocktail after complaints it was rude.
M&S launched a £2.25 can version of the passion fruit-based vodka drink last September.
It is Britain’s most popular cocktail in bars — but M&S has caved in to a handful of objections and now calls it Passion Star Martini.
One Mumsnet user had said: “I don’t want to explain to my small daughter what a porn star is while shopping for cake.”
But a Twitter user responded to the change by saying: “Absolute madness! It’s a Porn Star Martini.”
M&S acted after a ruling against the name by the alcohol industry-funded watchdog The Portman Group.
The Mumsnet objector had also said: “If you continue to allow this, it will open the floodgates to others, such as Sex On The Beach, Slippery Nipple, Sloe Comfortable Screw and Liquid Viagra.”
M&S had argued customers do not associate the name Porn Star Martini with “sexual activity”.
The drink was invented in London in 2002 by Douglas Ankrah, who has written several cocktail books.
He explained: “I called it Porn Star Martini because I thought it was something a porn star would drink.
“It’s pure indulgence, sexy, fun and evocative.”
