Mark Labbett: The Chase quizzer reacts to disappointed contestant ‘It’s discouraged’

Mark Labbett has been on The Chase since 2009 and has been up against many contestants along the way.

The Beast star has now revealed they are “discouraged” from interacting with any of the contestants, as it can be disruptive.

Mark’s comments came as he replied to a previous contestant who said being on the show had “ruined” it for them and were disappointed they couldn’t meet anyone.

The contestant made the complaint on Twitter, replying to The Chase’s account, who shared a link to vote for them in next year’s National Television Awards.

The Chase tweeted: “NTA We’re THRILLED to announce we are on the longlist for the @OfficialNTAs 2020! VOTE for us NOW in ‘The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award’! #TheChase

“@BradleyWalsh @MarkLabbett @anne_hegerty @TheShaunWallace @paulsinha @jenlion GET YOUR VOTES IN.”

The former contestant, Mary, replied: “Being on the show ruined it for me. It’s not at all how it looks on the tv.

“All the stopping and starting and we didn’t get to meet a chaser apart from the actual chase. No opportunity for chats never mind an autograph.”

Mark responded: “We are positively discouraged from interacting with the contestants, mainly because it creates chaos trying to get the next team moved into place if we go visit the team that has just finished.”

Mary appeared content with The Chase quizzer’s response and said they were “disappointed” to not have met him.

The contestant said: “Thank you Mark. That was never explained to us. I’m sure you’ll understand that we were disappointed to not meet you. Still voted for the show though as you are all fab.”

Elsewhere, Mark was active on social media at the weekend, after it was revealed his co-star, Jenny Ryan, wouldn’t be through to the live finals of X Factor: Celebrity.

Viewers watched Jenny get rejected by judge Nicole Scherzinger on Saturday night’s episode.

Mark wasn’t happy with the decision, along with hundreds of other fans who took to Twitter to complain.

He wrote: “I am only a genius so I cannot explain that decision 🙁 #xfactor #vixenrobbed.”

Since the uproar, there has been a shock U-turn and Jenny will now be returning to the competition.

The Vixen chatted to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on This Morning today about her stint on the show, where she revealed Simon Cowell had given her a call to come back on.

After jetting back home from Los Angeles, Jenny explained: “I got a phone call, after what felt like the longest time, I got a call from Simon inviting me to come back and join in.”

“Did he say they made a mistake?” Eamonn chimed in.

“Not quite, but it was inferred,” Jenny said with a smirk.

X Factor: Celebrity airs Saturday on ITV at 8.20pm.
