Mark Labbett: ‘People can't take no for an answer’ The Chase star on ‘weird’ fan requests

Mark Labbett has been one of the quizmasters on ITV show The Chase, fronted by Bradley Walsh, since it first aired in 2009.

The star, best known as The Beast, now has quite the following and makes appearances at nightclubs during Freshers’ Week at universities across the UK.

With his popularity also comes odd requests from fans, and there is one Mark has put his foot down on.

The Chase quizzer told Digital Spy: “The weird ones are the ones that ask me to pick them up.

“I made a promise I would only do it with the people I love and secondly, I am getting old, but some people can’t take no for an answer.”

“It’s fun though, you get all the weird and wonderful shots,” he added. “It’s lovely meeting all the students though.”

Mark also said there is a lot of rivalry between him and his co-stars, Jenny Ryan, Shaun Wallace and Anne Hegerty and Paul Sinha.

The ITV favourite said they are all very competitive and each want to be the “Alpha Chaser”.

He said: “The worst thing you can say to any of us is, ‘I want to face that one because they are the easy one’. That would be poison to my soul.

“Fortunately everyone is scared of me.”

Elsewhere, Mark’s co-star, Jenny, known as The Vixen, had some exciting news to share with her Twitter followers yesterday.

The red-head revealed she has signed up to compete on the celebrity version of the X Factor.

Jenny will be showcasing her vocal talents in front of judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger.

Addressing the exciting news on Twitter, Jenny said: “Well, the cat is truly out of the bag now. Or should that be Vixen?”

The Chase star will have to beat off 14 other acts in order to be crowned champion of the special edition.

Jenny has previously showcased her impressive singing voice when she teamed up with her co-stars, Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace and Anne Hegerty.

The Chase quizzers competed on the Comic Relief show Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief two years ago.

They all pulled off an amazing performance by singing songs from The Wizard of Oz, and ended up winning the competition.

Jenny is also in a band, a ukulele group from her home town of Bolton, called the Nanukes Of The North.

Other celebrities who will be competing include Megan McKenna, a Love Island supergroup, Ricki Lake and a trio made up of rugby players Thom Evans, Levi Davis and Ben Foden.

X Factor: Celebrity begins later this month on ITV.

The Chase airs today on ITV at 5pm.
