Margot Robbie couldn’t have picked a more appropriate occasion to dust off her feathers than the Birds of Prey premiere in London tonight.

The Australian actress led the red carpet at the capital’s BFI IMAX on Wednesday evening (29 January) to celebrate the forthcoming release of her solo turn as devilish Suicide Squad character Harley Quinn.

With a multi-coloured red carpet (or orange in this case), Margot wisely kept it simple in a black gown designed by Dries Van Noten, which featured an asymmetrical feather top teamed with a pair of neon pink gloves.

So basically, she nailed the bird theme.

Joining Margot, 29, on the orange carpet was her co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who stars as Helena Bertinelli aka The Huntress.

Contrasting Margot’s dark get-up, Mary brought a of colour in a deep red dress with a chiffon train which she twirled while posing for photos.

The actress later posed for a group photo with the rest of the Birds of Prey cast, including Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Ella Jay Basco and Chris Messina.

Birds of Prey, directed by Cathy Yan, will see Margot reprise her role as the eccentric and unpredictable supervillain who teams up with Huntress, Renee Montoya and Black Canary to save a young girl from an evil crime lord.

Oh, and in case you weren’t aware, she’s ditched the Joker for this caper.

Margot had the option of teaming up with David Ayers in a Gotham City Sirens movie that would have seen Harley join forces with Catwoman and Poison Ivy.

But Warner Bros. instead chose to adapt the Birds of Prey story.

Explaining her decision, Margot told Nerdist: ‘During Suicide Squad – when we would go to Comic-Con and such – I started to realise there was just such a huge fan base for Harley.

‘Whilst I was researching the character I started to read Birds of Prey and first I fell in love with Huntress, and I started looking into all of that. I was like, “Wow, there’s so many cool female DC characters and no one knows anything about any of them!”

‘So what if we had a platform for fans to get to know and fall in love with some of these other amazing women?’

Birds of Prey is released on 7 February.
