Margot Robbie ditches Harley Quinn colours for all white everything at The Suicide Squad premiere

Margot Robbie has proved that you don’t need to wear a gown to be belle of the ball.

The 31-year-old chose to wear a stylish all-white ensemble to the premiere of The Suicide Squad, rocking high-waisted slacks and a halterneck design over a long-sleeved mesh top.

The look from Chanel Resort 2022 was accessorised with a pearl belt and the classic Channel logo on two brooches.

Margot kept her jewellery simple with a pair of heart-shaped drop earrings, and finished off the outfit with a pair of open-toe heeled sandals.

The look was a far cry from the colourful attire sported by her character Harley Quinn in the new blockbuster, but one star of the movie who chose to embrace their on-screen alter ego was John Cena, who showed up to the Regency Village Theatre in character.

The wrestler turned actor went all out to dress as his The Suicide Squad character Peacemaker, sporting his red, blue and white jumpsuit, a silver helmet, and even toting a gun and wearing a holster belt.

While the 44-year-old joked around on the red carpet, pointing his gun at the cameras and flexing his muscles, John made sure to also take some serious snaps with his co-stars, as well as wife Shay Shariatzadeh.

Also at the premiere were The Suicide Squad stars Sylvester Stallone (Nanaue), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Storm Reid (Tyla), Jai Courtney, (Captain Boomerang) and Michael Rooker (Savant), as well as the film’s director James Gunn.

It wasn’t just the film’s cast and crew that attracted attention, though, as Taika Waititi – who, while  directing Thor: Love and Thunder for DC’s rivals Marvel, also plays Ratcatcher and Starro in The Suicide Squad – hit the red carpet with girlfriend Rita Ora.

Didn’t we all miss celebrities ruling the red carpet?

The Suicide Squad is a standalone sequel to 2016’s similarly (and very confusingly) titled Suicide Squad, which also starred Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn but featured other cast members including Will Smith as Deadshot and Jared Leto as The Joker.

The David Ayer directed superhero film received negative reviews, but it seems the franchise’s fortune as turned around, as The Suicide Squad – the new one – has been hailed by the critics following its release last week.

Viola Davis returns as Amanda Waller, as well as Margot, Joel and Jai, with John Cena, Idris Elba, Sylvester Stallone, Peter Davidson and Peter Capaldi joining the cast.

The film follows a team of imprisoned convicts at Belle Reve penitentiary who are sent to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory.

While James Gunn has already got some ideas for a possible sequel and spin-offs, one TV spin-off has already been confirmed, with Cena’s character Peacemaker getting his own show on HBO Max.

The Suicide Squad is out now.
