Marcus Rashford has played down concerns he could miss the rest of the season due to injury.

The Manchester United striker is suffering from a back injury and some reports claimed he could be forced to sit out the rest of the campaign.

Rashford missed the defeat to Liverpool and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed it would be at least six weeks until the striker was able to return to training.

But amid concerns Rashford’s season is over, the 22-year-old spoke out on Twitter: ‘I’ll be back before the season ends to hopefully help my team claim top four.’

Solskjaer refused to put a time frame on Rashford’s return, but hinted it would be a lengthy absence ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League match against Burnley.

‘Marcus is going to get as long as he needs,’ said Solskjaer.

‘We are not going to risk him when he has had an injury. When he comes back he will be 100 per cent fit.’

Rashford’s injury could force United to dip into the transfer market, with Anthony Martial the only other fit centre-forward in the senior squad.

United were already in the market for attacking reinforcements and Solskjaer denied he was at fault for forcing Rashford to play through injury.

‘I never put myself before the team,’ he said. ‘I put the team and the club before anything else.

‘Yes, he had minor discomfort but he had scans. We monitored him. We have to manage players every single day.

‘There are loads of things Ian Wright [who made the allegation], or anyone else, doesn’t know about.’
