Mandy Moore has reached the base camp on Mount Everest.

After the mountain was described as ‘death, carnage, chaos,’ by Canadian filmmaker Elia Saikaly, the 35-year-old This Is Us star revealed she too was taking on the challenge with a group of her friends.

It has been confirmed that 11 people have died in the past 10 days after taking on the climb.

However, this hasn’t put the singer off, as Mandy shared a series of snaps on Instagram, of herself posing in the snow at the foot of the Earth’s highest mountain

In the caption, the actress explained how she’d been taught special breathing techniques in order to take in as much air when the pressure starts to drop.

She wrote: ‘There is so much magic in these mountains. They represent adventure in the grandest form and in a language all their own.

‘The idea of standing at the base of the world’s tallest peak with @eddiebauer, a brand that has been outfitting record-setting climbers since the beginning – from the first American ascent in 1963 (Jim Whittaker) to our guide @melissaarnot, the first American Woman to ascend and descend Everest without oxygen, is truly beyond my wildest imagination.’

The star continued: ‘Traversing this terrain has its challenges. Breathing at altitude, for instance, is not easy.

‘One of the greatest gifts/lessons that Melissa simultaneously bestowed on us during this trek was the fine art of pressure breathing. It makes all the difference as you climb higher.

‘It’s essentially a big inhale and a sharp, forceful exhale, like you’re blowing out a candle across the room, to open up your lungs, allowing you to use more oxygen, etc…’

Another thing ticked off the bucket list for Mandy (Picture: mandymooremm/Instagram)

She then went on to praise her guide Melissa for sharing the technique as well as her ‘time, knowledge and endless trove of stories.’

‘Her belief in our abilities to keep moving and ultimately make it to the base of the Mighty, Mighty Mt. Everest was so powerful,’ Mandy explained.

‘Spoiler alert: we made it!!! It’s impossible to be lucky enough to arrive at the foot of these mammoth peaks and not be attuned to the palpable energy of all of those who came before and lost their lives in these mountains.’

She concluded: ‘The wave of emotion: respect, reverence, appreciation….that washed over us as we took in the prayer flags and yellow domed tents of basecamp AND sat on the rocks regarding the chortens that dot the hillside of the Tukla Pass the day before, profoundly.’

The mountain has been more deadly than ever this year with hundreds flocking to the Himalayas to climb the beast.

It’s said huge numbers of mountaineers were forced to wait in traffic jams for over 12 hours to reach the top of the mountain.

The latest confirmed fatality is American lawyer Christopher John Kulish, 62, who died during his descent from the summit just yesterday.

The cause of his death has not yet been confirmed, but most of the fatalities have so far been put down to exhaustion, which has been exacerbated by the traffic jams.

Another four bodies found on the mountain last week have yet to be identified.
