Manchester United vs Tottenham predicted line-ups: Team news ahead of Premier League fixture

Jose Mourinho returns to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening as Tottenham Hotspur take on Manchester United.

Spurs have won three successive matches since Mourinho took charge, spearheaded by the resurgence of Dele Alli. However, they have conceded twice in each of those victories and were forced to cling on against Bournemouth on Saturday.

His successor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, comes into the game under a huge burden of pressure after United were outclassed at home during the club’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa last weekend.

The club continues to offer their public backing to the Norwegian, yet they are now closer in points to the relegation zone than the top four, and a continued spell of dire results could spell the end.

Here is everything you need to know:

Team news

Scott McTominay is expected to make his return from an ankle injury, while Jesse Lingard could start after Juan Mata’s disappointing performance against Villa. The game comes too soon for Paul Pogba, though, who Solskjaer confirmed is not yet ready to return.

Harry Winks could replace Tanguy Ndombele in midfield, while Danny Rose could return to counteract United’s pace down the flanks.

Predicted line-ups

Manchester United: Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Williams; McTominay, Fred; James, Lingard, Rashford; Martial

Tottenham: Gazzaniga; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Rose; Dier, Winks; Sissoko, Alli, Son; Kane

What are the odds?

Manchester United to win: 13/8

Draw: 12/5

Prediction

The match will be frenetic with Mourinho’s former players desperate to stick it to him, while the manager himself will urgently want to get one over United at Old Trafford.

However, the two sides are on such dramatic different planes of momentum at the moment that, although United could start with a renewed vigour and desire, Spurs’ quality and form should ultimately shine through in a hot-blooded encounter.

Manchester United 1-3 Tottenham
