Manchester United transfer news latest: Bruno Fernandes, Matthijs de Ligt, Paul Pogba, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and more

Manchester United have accelerated their chase of Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes, with Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha claiming the midfielder is attracted to the “history and mystique” of the club.

The Portuguese international looks certain to leave the club with United now moving ahead of both Tottenham and Liverpool in the race to sign the coveted 24-year-old.

Sporting reportedly want £62m for the player, with United unwilling to meet that asking price, however, positive discussions have been held with Fernandes’ agent.

Tottenham retain an interest in Fernandes, but A Bola reports that any move hinges on Christian Eriksen leaving first.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees Fernandes as the perfect goalscoring midfielder to provide attacking impetus to his starting XI, with another four additions remaining on the top-priority list.

United are now almost certain to miss out on Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt, with the Dutch centre-back set to accept an offer from Juventus in the coming days, according to Sky in Italy.

Barcelona and PSG both also made lucrative offers for De Ligt, however, he has rejected the chance to join his former teammate Frankie de Jong with a transfer fee of £62m now reportedly agreed between Ajax and Juventus.

Crystal Palace remain completely unmoved in their valuation of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, meaning United will ultimately have to match if it they are to finally secure the defender.

The Old Trafford have had two bids already knocked back by Palace, because they are well short of the set price of around £70m.

United had initially been hoping to prise the 22-year-old from Selhurst Park for £25m, and then £50m, but Palace have been steadfast in their stance.

They have no need to sell Wan-Bissaka so it will ultimately be up to United to match their valuation.

Meanwhile, West Ham want Anthony Martial in exchange for Issa Diop, if any deal is to be done for the centre-half.

The Old Trafford hierarchy have investigated the possibility of signing the 22-year-old, but West Ham have so far shown no willingness to sell.

In initial talks, however, the London club have indicated that they may be willing to do business if Martial comes the other way.

If United are unable to complete a deal for Fernandes, they could turn to Real Betis star Giovani Lo Celso.

Tottenham are very keen on the Argentine international but reports in Spain suggest that Daniel Levy has baulked at the club’s £65m asking price leaving the way clear for United.

Atletico Madrid are also interested but the claims state United are “best placed” to get their man.

Elsewhere, Paul Pogba‘s hopes of returning to Italy have been scuppered after Juventus look to seal the signature of Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer from PSG.

Pogba has finally made his desire to leave Old Trafford clear, stating that it’s time for a “new challenge”, but many sources say he’s for a long time been “desperate to leave”.

Zinedine Zidane wants Pogba to join Real Madrid at any price, but the Bernabeu hierarchy are not keen to spend more than £110m after a summer that has already seen them break £350m.

Meanwhile, rivals Manchester City appear to have won the race for Harry Maguire.

United are keen on the England international but the Mirror reports the champions are closing in on his signature.

They say United were only willing to offer £40m while City were happy to meet Leicester’s £65m asking price.

Maguire is also keen to work under manager Pep Guardiola.
