Carlo Ancelotti has told Manchester United that Kalidou Koulibaly will be staying at Napoli for another season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is open to signing a new central defender this summer, although the United manager is keen to strengthen other areas of his squad in the upcoming transfer window.

Koulibaly has been monitored by United over two years but Napoli are in a strong negotiating position as the 27-year-old extended his contract in September.

Koulibaly’s deal includes a €150 million (£132m) release clause which activates in 2021, but Napoli are sticking to that same valuation before the clause can be triggered.

And Ancelotti has now ruled United out of signing Koulibaly this summer.

‘Koulibaly will remain in Naples in the next season,’ Ancelotti told Radio Rai after Napoli’s 3-2 defeat to Bologna on Saturday.

United have also reportedly made a £350,000-a-week offer to Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, who is also wanted by Barcelona.

But the 19-year-old insists he will not make a decision over his future until after Netherlands’ Nations League campaign in June.
