Porto full-back Alex Telles has urged the club to lower their £18.3million asking price in order for him to get his wish of joining Manchester United this summer.

The 27-year-old is believed to have already agreed personal terms over a move to Old Trafford but United have had difficulty in agreeing a fee with the Portuguese club.

Porto value Telles at €20m (£18.3m) but United feel that he is worth closer to £12m and talks have hit a stalemate in recent days with both parties unwilling to compromise.

However, Telles is conscious that this may be his only opportunity to get a move to the Red Devils and the Guardian claim he has intervened in a bid to force a transfer to the Theatre of Dreams.

The full-back has just a year left on his deal and he believes that Porto have set an overly-ambitious asking price that could price him out of a dream move to the north-west.

Telles believes a fee in the region of £12m is more acceptable but United could drag their heels as they know the club need the money to finance a deal for Sérgio Conceição’s squad.

Telles has entered the final year of his deal and would be sign a pre-contract agreement with non-Portuguese clubs from January 1st 2021 but United want the Brazilian international this season to provide competition for Luke Shaw.

Should Telles eventually sign, he’d become United’s second signing of the summer following the capture of Donny van de Beek and he’d allow Brandon Williams to move to his preferred role at right-back to challenge Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
