Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of James Maddison as scouts will now be constantly monitoring the Leicester City midfielder, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has openly admitted that he is keen to strengthen United’s attacking options in the January transfer window having failed to sign a striker in the summer.

But United also missed out on a move for Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen as Solskjaer was also keen to improve his creativity in midfield.

According to the Evening Standard, Solskjaer has now tasked United’s scouting department with keeping a close eye on Maddison’s impact at Leicester ahead of a potential move next summer.

Maddison impressed during his debut season in the Premier League last term, scoring seven goals and registering seven assists in 36 appearances.

The 22-year-old has also made an excellent start to the current campaign with Leicester City and looks set to play a key role in helping Brendan Rodgers’ side push for a place in Europe.

Maddison, who is yet to receive his first senior England cap, has also been linked with a move to Tottenham.

The report also claims that Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho remains Solskjaer’s ‘dream target’.

United made an approach to sign Sancho earlier this year but Dortmund refused to sell the 19-year-old.
