Manchester United star Luke Shaw is expected to be out for up to five weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace.

Shaw pulled up shortly after Jordan Ayew’s opening goal and had to be replaced by Ashley Young before Patrick van Aanholt’s late strike secured a 2-1 win for the visitors.

The Red Devils will have been sweating over the injury considering Diogo Dalot – one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s few options at left-back – is also currently sidelined.

According to The Daily Mail, scans have shown that Shaw will be out for around five weeks. This would rule defender out of United’s upcoming clashes with Southampton, Leicester, West Ham and Arsenal.

Asked about Shaw’s injury after the final whistle, Solskjaer replied: ‘We will do the scans tomorrow but he felt something in his hamstring.

‘Hopefully he won’t be too bad and will be back for Southampton.’

Anthony Martial also suffered a thigh problem against Palace and United are waiting for the results of scans.

However, it’s understood the club are optimistic that Martial’s injury is not as severe as first feared and the forward will likely return to training over the coming days.

Solskjaer will be hoping Martial returns to full fitness ahead of this weekend’s trip to Southampton, where United will be desperate to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat.

Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah remain on the sidelines with knee injuries.
