Manchester United want to hire ‘talent spotters’ in Spain and France to identify up-and-coming talent in La Liga and Ligue 1, report ESPN.

The Red Devils have made just one signing so far this summer following the £18million acquisition of Swansea winger Daniel James.

United have changed their approach in the transfer market following the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the club are now targeting young, British talent that are yet to fulfill their full potential.

Jose Mourinho was privately dismayed at United’s ‘bloated’ scouting department during his time at the club and took subtle digs at the department by praising West Ham’s move for Issa Diop and claiming a number of Sevilla players would walk into his side.

Ed Woodward, the club’s executive vice-chairman, is looking to appoint a technical director and has held talks with Rio Ferdinand and Darren Fletcher over the role.

But ESPN claims the club are also seeking to hire ‘talent spotters’ in Spain and France to bolster their scouting department.

United want to identify ‘world class’ talent in Europe ahead of the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid in order to avoid paying large fees for the same players later down the line.

The club’s new transfer strategy is epitomised by their move for Crystal Palace Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United are willing to make the full-back the most expensive English defender ever and are hopeful of concluding a deal in the coming days.
