Manchester United risk losing out on Jadon Sancho as the club’s hierarchy have become notorious for dragging out negotiations, according to reports.

The 19-year-old is expected to be one of the most in-demand players during the summer transfer window following his excellent performances since joining Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

Dortmund are reportedly willing to sell Sancho at the end of the season but are demanding in excess of £100 million.

According to ESPN, United are looking to complete a move for Sancho but they face the prospect of missing out on the England international due to their inability to quickly attract a player and secure a deal ahead of rival clubs.

The report claims that United’s lack of urgency was part of the reason why they lost out to Dortmund in the race to sign Erling Haaland.

It’s claimed that United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward delayed allowing the club’s football staff to contact Haaland, which then handed Dortmund the opportunity to build a strong relationship with the striker.

Speaking shortly after joining Dortmund, Haaland admitted the club’s sales pitch was a factor behind his decision to move to Germany instead of Old Trafford.

‘The club said directly: ‘we need you up front. We like your playing style and we want to have you here,” Haaland said.

‘I liked how they spoke to me then and that’s what triggered me. That’s when I felt that me and Dortmund was a good match.’

ESPN also report that United’s lengthy negotiations with Sporting over the deal for Bruno Fernandes also caused ‘frustration behind the scenes’ at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are also keen on completing a move for Sancho this summer.
