Manchester United are ready to pay half of Alexis Sanchez’s mammoth £500,000-a-week wages to secure him a move away this summer, according to reports.

Sanchez has endured a nightmare period at Old Trafford since signing from Premier League rivals Arsenal in January 2018.

The Chile international emerged as key and influential player for the Gunners but has been unable to replicate that form under Jose Mourinho and now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Daily Mail say that while the final decision over Sanchez’s future will be left to Solskjaer, Manchester United are prepared to cut their losses and offload the forward.

But, the 30-year-old’s lucrative wages will provide a stumbling block so the Manchester club are reportedly resigned to paying half of his wages to tempt another club into striking a deal.

Manchester United, currently sixth in the Premier League, do not want Sanchez to join a direct rival and will push for the former Gunner to seal a move abroad.

Sanchez has been heavily linked with a move from Old Trafford but said earlier in the year that he wanted to ‘bring joy’ to United fans and help the club win silverware.

He told United Review in March: ‘I want to keep showing my love for football. I know what I can do. I have belief in my ability.

‘United are such an important club, not only in England but on a global level, and I would love to help bring a trophy to the supporters.

‘Obviously, I want to make the United fans really happy. I want to score goals. I want to bring them joy. I want to win silverware.’

Sanchez was a second-half substitute in Manchester United’s Premier League draw with top-four rivals Chelsea last weekend.

Solskjaer’s side face Huddersfield Town on Saturday before ending the 2018-19 campaign at home to Cardiff City.
