Manchester United chiefs are preparing to test West Ham’s resolve as they look to lure Issa Diop to Old Trafford, reports claim.

The Red Devils are determined to add centre-backs to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad this summer, with Harry Maguire thought to be at the top of their wishlist.

However, both Maguire and Napoli central defender Kalidou Koulibaly are pricey options, costing £80million and £100m respectively.

Diop, who impressed in his first Premier League season under Manuel Pellegrini in 2018/19, has emerged as a potential aternative, thought to cost a fraction of the price.

The Hammers splashed £22m on the Frenchman to bring him to the London Stadium from Toulouse and can expect to at least double that figure should they choose to sell him on.

United are ready to make an opening bid of £45m while throwing in a player in order to get the deal across the line, according to Sky Sports.

However, West Ham chiefs want at least £60m in order to let their prized asset leave.

While a centre-back is the priority, Solskjaer also wants a right-back to be added to his squad.

Talks are ongoing with Crystal Palace over a move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka after a £40m opening bid was flatly turned down.
