Ralf Rangnick’s issues at Manchester United are growing with doubts now emerging over two of the coaches he appointed to his backroom team as well as his training techniques, according to reports.

The German coach is facing an enormous task to turn United’s season around as he grapples with a divided and discontented dressing room, with as many as 17 players in the squad unhappy with their current situation.

A number of fringe players are keen to leave Old Trafford – this month preferably – as they seek more regular game time, though even regular starters have failed to be impressed with Rangnick.

According to the Daily Mail, the 63-year-old’s position has been weakened significantly by the fact he is only in charge until the end of the season, with the players not fully buying into his ideas as they know he is only a short-term appointment.

His efforts to galvanise the team have not been helped by a number of players expressing doubts over his training techniques, while his coaching additions have not impressed either.

There are concerns over the calibre of the new coaching staff that have been brought in, namely former New York Red Bulls head coach Chris Armas and assistant coach Ewan Sharp.

The duo have limited top-level coaching experience, while it has been noted that Armas was sacked twice in the 15 months before he arrived at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick’s exit has been felt by the players, while even the departure of Kieran McKenna – who was considered overly school-masterly by many within the squad – has left a void that has not been adequately filled.

Like Rangnick, Armas and Sharp have only signed contracts until the end of the season and are widely expected to leave the club when the permanent manager is selected, particularly with the likes of Maurico Pochettino and Erik ten Hag having such well established backroom teams of their own.

For his part, Rangnick is said to have identified a selfish streak among United’s players, many of whom are reluctant to pull together as a team – a problem that was first highlighted to United’s board by Jose Mourinho several years ago.
