Manchester United have passed up the chance to sign Youri Tielemans as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to bolster his options in central midfield ahead of the new season following the departure of Ander Herrera, while Pogba could also leave after publicly expressing his desire to leave Old Trafford this summer.

The France international admitted that he wants ‘a new challenge’ with Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane keen on completing a deal for the World Cup winner.

Tielemans, meanwhile, impressed during his loan stint at Leicester City during the season half of this season and has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including United.

However, according to the Sunday Telegraph, United have been offered the chance to sign Tielemans but have declined the opportunity to complete a deal for the 22-year-old.

The report claims that United are ‘focusing on other targets’, while Monaco are demanding €45 million (£40m) for the Belgian midfielder.

United have already completed an £18m deal to sign Daniel James from Swansea City.

But Solskjaer is keen for the club to get the majority of business done by the time the team report back for pre-season training at the start of July.
